A full Memorial Day weekend was planned for me. With yard work and the cemetery visits it was not to be a day or weekend of rest. Though Saturday when Gene and I went out to decorate the graves we took some scenic routes that we don’t often go down. I love taking these winding drives in my area. The back roads where everything is slower, and greener. The places where the back roads stop having actual names and street signs and often are covered in gravel and dirt. These are the places I love to explore. To turn my car down a dusty back road and see where it leads. Often to a field somewhere. Or a creekside that is quiet and tranquil.
Where the houses can range from trailers on huge farms to old Southern mansions on little ones.

Where hay rolls are all done round bout the same time each year, and line fields of green beneath them. Their bounty stored until winter.
Where it is not unusual to see barns sitting lonely in a field.Sometimes with a smaller version of themselves but other then that nothing.
Fresh growth on a plowed field always seems greener than before.
I love these drives, the peace and tranquility that can be found on a ramble down a back road in my state.
