Another Christmas Past

2013-12-25 14.58.11

Well we made it through another Christmas. The kids were happy with their presents, even though the youngest managed to make all of the models he got in the span of 24 hours. He will have finished with the volcano tomorrow. Note to self, in the future find way more advanced things to get him to put together. Renee got him a working model of Davinci's helicopter, it was pretty cool and it took a little over 3 hours for him and his Dad to put together. Of course what would Christmas be … [Read more...]

Another kid friendly recipe.. Chocolate covered cherries

I can honestly say that many of my Christmas memories center around family gatherings and the cooking and baking that came along with it, in any house I went to visit. Each of the kids in my mom's family had certain things they were guaranteed to bring to the many family dinners that would occur in the season. They all came together to make meals that stretched, literally, the length of their homes, from front door to back.  As her brothers and sisters passed away the family dinners became far … [Read more...]

Santa and Jesus were white?? Here is what I think…

All one has to do is go anywhere on the internet and the big news lately is Megyn Kelly and her news clip where she professes Jesus and Santa were both white. The uproar it caused was expected but the retorts to her dialogue have run the gamut from hysterical to as hateful and ignorant as her 'so called joke' wound up to be for her. While I could go into the numerous texts and historical chronicles of both men I won't. But I will give her something else to think about. Guess what Jesus wasn't … [Read more...]

My Old School Blogging, The 12 questions of Christmas

So I read Sluiter Nation, one of my favorite to read.. and she had participated in an Old School blogging carnival with Miss Elaineous. So You know I had to participate as well, especially since I talked about how much I missed the old school blogging that was around when I first started. First things first: 1 Holy Night or 8 Crazy Ones? (Do you Celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, both?) Well when I was younger and all of our aunts and uncles were alive we did a lot of house hopping. Christmas … [Read more...]

Snow on the ground, more on the way and Christmas fast approaching. In between doctor appointments and kids being sick it has been an interesting week to try and get it all up and out. I mean if you know me at all, you know this is my favorite time of year. As a rule I begin decorating the day after Thanksgiving. But we are getting a late start. This is just the tip of the iceberg of my stuff for Christmas.. keep in mind there were totes and boxes like this in 2 other rooms as well. The … [Read more...]

Peanut butter roll candy. A family favorite and one kids can help you make!!!

This has quickly become a favorite in my house at Christmas time. This year I even experimented and made one with Jif Hazelnut Mocha Cappuccino flavored spread. It was as amazing as the peanut butter ones are! The recipe will make several small rolls, which makes them easier to cut up later for storage.  … [Read more...]

It is the second holiday season without mom. One would think it would get easier, and on some days it is, the new normal falling into place. But then there are those moments in the everyday rote of holiday season that are caught in a snapshot and take your breath. That leave your chest heavy and your heart aching at the realization of how much someone is missed in the everyday of life, but the holidays seem to bring it to the forefront even more so than any other time. As you know my friend … [Read more...]

Christmas time is nearing and I need some cards that scream MEEEEEE!!!

*In accordance with FTC guidelines I have written this post as an honest review of the links provided within. I did receive compensation in the form of store credit for my work but my opinion is not for sale. I do not endorse or give good reviews to companies who I do not feel have earned such.   Up until a few years ago I was a boxed Christmas card girl... key word being was. The year my mom passed I found a place to order custom made cards with photos I had taken put on the front. I … [Read more...]

It’s not the now I fear it is the later that terrifies me..

Two years since I wrote this post, and there are days it seems like only yesterday. I still worry about the later, even though I am living in the later. I could say the loss of her got easier and in some ways it has, but in many ways it is just as raw as it was the day she passed. I still have moments of wanting to pick up the phone and call her. Like the other night when it began snowing and my sister called to tell me. Mom always used to do that. It is the little things I miss, like the way … [Read more...]
