Dear Trucker ,I will roll you for 125.00 know that!!

By now you all know I work for a major truck stop. Meaning most of our business base is trucker or traveler based. As a rule the truckers are just people like me trying to make it ever day. One of the things they have as a trucker is something called a cash advance. An amount of money they can pull out a week to cover things like food, cigarettes etc. That will come out of their paycheck at the end of their week. Most of them take 100.00 or so, some more , some less. Some of them take much more for repairs or whatever which is usually repaid by the company they work for when they even up at the end of the week. Friday I had a trucker come in to set up for reefer fuel and wanted a cash advance of 25.00. When he finished he came back in to finish the transaction and get his cash advance. He got his money , he left.

About 10 minutes later he comes back in with a receipt claiming the receipt read he asked for an advance of 150.00 and I owed him another 125.00 to make it right, since he would have to pay that money back at the end of pay period. Something smelled fishy, and I am not referring to the lot lizard that came in behind him. I knew what my transaction was and I looked over the receipt then called my team leader over. She looked as well and was suspicious. I might be flighty but not when it comes to my drawer. I am always dead on with that. Rather then fight with the trucker who swore he had just gotten the receipt and went to log it when he noticed the issue we called the GM up to audit my drawer. Had I truly owed him that money my drawer would obviously be over 125.00 right. Well he was all bothered by the audit and kept insisting he had just pulled it right out of his pocket and see the rain on it. Well first of all the receipt was not wrinkled and I don’t know about you but when I put receipts in my pockets they always get wrinkled. Then I noticed his fuel was not on the receipt, which it would have been since the transactions were done as one action. When I pointed this out my GM was down to counting my pennies and my drawer was only off by 1.23 and I had 2 rolls of pennies plus what was in my change space. The trucker still kept insisting I owed it to him, then I saw the date on the ticket. July 6th!!! Today was the 13th. I was livid but I bit my tongue and he of course had held up the line and everyone knew he was trying to be slick now. He grabbed the receipts and headed back to his truck. No apology , no nothing. I walked away from the counter to catch my breath. Boss sent me on a 10 to calm down. He said Angel if he had said anyone else had done it I would have had to think twice about it but I knew you don’t make those kind of mistakes like that, not that big of one. My boss asked if I thought it was an honest mistake and I said , ” No, he has used all his money for the week adn needed more then the 25.00 he could still get. He thought he was gonna fool me, never expecting me to deny his claims or get you to audit my drawer. ” What he don’t know is I will roll you in the parking lot you try to steal from me. That is taking food from MY kid’s mouths. Know that.

As a rule they are hard working honest people, but there are a few that leave a bad taste in your mouth and make the other truckers look bad. The whole it only takes one bad apple to ruin the whole basket. That is unless you meet me, then I am the bad apple and I will flip your basket. Know that.

  2. I just don’t understand how people of the guts to do stuff like that. Hell, my registration is one day overdue and I’m hiding from the cops.

  4. Oh snap – that’s shady. Good for you for standing your ground with him, though. Imagine if you weren’t so smart and just handed over the money based on his word – which I am sure could happen.

  5. Oh no – that totally sucks.

But wasn’t it positive confirmation that everyone else knew you were right and wouldn’t make a mistake?

Sorry that some people can be liars.
