I have a friend on Facebook who posted this pic today, and my jaw hit my chest..
Please understand me, I am not a holier than thou Christian. I fall ALL THE TIME.. but this just literally killed my soul. How does a CHURCH operate a FOOD BANK then close it because it was attracting ‘poor people’? Last I checked that was the whole purpose of a Food Bank. At least it is in my mind. It is a hand to those who need it. You know what JESUS, the FOUNDATION of the church said to do. The worst part is He didn’t just say it one time, He was smart enough to know there would be those IN the church , who would claim to have it all down pat, who would need a friendly reminder. A simple nudge in the right direction to become a lot less of themselves and a whole lot more like HIM.
Verses like:
Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me
Not clear enough??? Ok , how about :
James 2:14-18
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
I mean HELLO how much plainer could he make it….but in reality I think this is the one that particular church needs to have drilled into them. Because their behavior towards these ‘poor people’ has a consequence in God’s eye. Their attitude of holier than thou will bite them in the hind quarters. The Bible tells them it will.
Proverbs 14:31
Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.
So it is not like it was something out of left field. This has always been God’s will. Love. Period. Simple as that.
1 John 3:17-18
But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
Yeah that makes it pretty clear. It’s not about your building that is a roof over your head but the building we walk around in daily. How can we call ourselves the church if we can’t even act like we know the foundation of it while in the building, let alone on the street. It is stuff like this that makes my blood boil as a Christian. This behavior is the very thing that makes people turn their backs on us and who we believe in. We are not perfect. None of us ever were or will be. Yes the blood makes us clean but our choices make us pure and like him. So if you can’t manifest the love of God in the building you built to worship him in, why am I not surprised you cannot do it anywhere else??? That becomes the danger of RELIGION.. it makes us haughty and proud, when what we should be is grateful and thankful. Religion teaches arrogance and piety , when what we are supposed to learn is humbleness and charity. Religion teaches closed minded ideals, when what it is supposed to teach is forgiveness and mercy. So tell me again how you can say you are doing God’s work when God isn’t in you let alone the building???

ok, that post just made me cry. how could they be so mean
