What I did this Summer with The Only Parent Chronicles…

Kristen of the OPC has been missing. Summer took her away from us for a few months but with the arrival of school and regaining ownership of her daylight hours she is back, with a fun link up. Tell her what you did this summer… tell us all. Because we want to know.

I can’t say we did a lot this summer. No trips, no vacations. But the upside is we have land and lots of it. This summer found us adding some greenery in the form of weeping willows and some fruit trees. Then Gene got his ultimate wish, a fire pit. Unfortunately with the heat of summer it didn’t see much action until the end of July, because seriously it is already smothering hot who wants to sit by a fire???

The temps also made for a dry yard and no mowing, unless we wanted a brown patch of land. Trust me the kids were enthused about it. But the dry heat also kept us from having  a garden, we also didn’t have time in our hectic schedules to plant one. With a son who went to summer session, only to screw up his knee and have to pull out and have surgery on it. I MAY be becoming a grandmother, the jury is still out on that one and probably will be until DNA is run, ahem.

I did get to take some drives though and get some shots of some of the reasons I love living in KY. The green hillsides, the houses with family and some abandoned. I often wondered if those walls could talk what stories would they tell???

In the midst of it all we sorted my mother’s  house out and are attempting to have an estate sale. Every weekend we have it planned for has rained out though.. sighs. I am more than likely going to auction off her house and simply get it sold and off the land. I do not think I want strangers living in it behind me, I know I don’t.  The one thing we discovered is when it is pulled off the foundation will remain. So Gene has an idea to make it a patio with a sink and the grill with seating. Basically an outdoor kitchen. It would be nice.

I had a job, then lost it, Drama too much of it. But I am going to go back to work ASAP. I realized how much I missed working once I got to do it again. Fall is making its presence known at nighttime. The temps getting cooler and the air holding moisture, which has lent itself to great nights by the fire . We watched a meteor shower one night till nearly 2 am. The kids got to stay up and laid in the back of the truck watching the sky for the streaks of light as they flashed across.

I realize before I know it Thanksgiving will be here, followed by Christmas and I am wondering where my year went. It has seemingly flown past.

  1. you need to hang out at your local home depot type store. maybe yard crashers will come and do a whole yard makeover for you. I’m kind of hoping to run into the house crasher dudes myself.

  2. We wanted to watch that meteor show in August so badly, but it was cloudy here that weekend. :(

Thanks so much for coming by and linking up! It will be fun to get back into the loop and keep up with all that is going on with you!
